Club History
Our Club was formed on April 16, 1981 by the Preble Optimist Club. Vern Krawczyk was our first president and we had 36 members that year. We started our activities modestly with a Halloween Party at East Town Mall. We raised funds by selling bags of apples and bags of mixed nuts.
Since then, we have accomplished a lot. Some of our earliest and longest running activities include the Toys for Needy Children Campaign, Academic Letters for NEW Lutheran High School, and the Chili Cook Off. Later we added the Easter Candy Hunt, a joint project with our friends from the Preble Optimist Club. We also sponsor the East Side Bulldogs Football team and the Boy Scout Troop 1173. We are proud to support the Brown County Library’s Give-a-Kid-a-Book campaign. Most recently we have worked to provide for local Bellevue events like Freeze Fest, the Dance Recital and the Trick or Treat Trail.
Beyond Bellevue’s Borders
Our club part of the Wisconsin Upper Northern Michigan (WINUM) District, consisting of 56 total clubs. Our club is in zone 7, along with other area Optimist clubs. We have received many District and Optimist International awards and honors. We are proud to say that many of our club members have progressed from Club President to the office of District Lt. Governor. Two of our members have been WINUM District Governors.
